Let’s make terrific turkey crafts! November, leading up to Thanksgiving, is indeed an excellent time for preschoolers to engage in crafting adorable turkeys. Turkey crafts help celebrate the gratitude season and aid in developing fine motor skills, following directions, and expressing creativity.
Gobble, Gobble!
Here are some cute turkey craft ideas to try with preschoolers
T is for Turkey
Materials:
- paper (brown, white, orange)
- googly eyes
- feathers
- glue
- scissors
Instructions:
- Cut brown paper into strips
- Glue strips to make the letter “T.”
- Cut out beak
- Glue feathers, eyes, and beak
Paper Turkey Craft
Materials:
- few colors of paper, including brown for turkey, white, and black for eyes
- glue
- scissors
Instructions:
- Cut out a bigger circle for the body and a smaller circle for the head
- Cut out small circles for eyes
- Cut different colors of paper into strips
- Cut out triangle beak, gobbler, and feet (combine small paper strips to make feet)
- Glue all parts on paper to create a turkey
Paper Strips Turkey Craft
Materials:
- brown paper, paper for the beak, and gobbler
- googly eyes
- feathers
- glue
- scissors
Instructions:
- Cut out a brown circle
- Draw lines across the width of brown paper
- Cut the paper in half-length wise
- Cut on lines to gather all paper strips
- Glue paper strips on a brown circle
- Glue eyes, beak, gobbler and feathers.
Paper Plate Turkey Craft
Materials:
- paper plate
- few colors of paint
- googly eyes
- paper for head, beak, and gobbler
- clothespins for legs
- optional Q-tip, pencil eraser top, small sponge, or cotton ball
Instructions:
- Cut the paper plate in half
- Paint half the plate with a few different paint colors using a pointer finger or optional materials.
- Glue head, beak, and gobbler
- Attach clothes pins, legs
Playdough Turkey Fun
Materials:
- brown playdough (we did not have brown playdough, so we mixed red/orange and green playdough to create brown playdough)
- decorating materials such as dry spaghetti noodles, cheerios, beads, pipe cleaners, and feathers
- googly eyes
- paper/foam beak and gobbler
Instructions:
- Roll playdough into two balls for the body and head
- Decorate turkey as you wish
Rubber Band Turkey Craft
Materials:
- precut cardboard circle
- brown rubber bands
- clothespins
- googly eyes
- paper/foam for beak and gobbler
- glue (optional: hot glue gun for facial features for durability)
Instructions:
- Place rubber bands across the cardboard circle
- Clip clothespins on top
- Glue eyes, beak, and gobbler
Pine Cone Turkey Craft
Materials:
- pine cone
- felt or construction paper
- feathers
- pompom for head
- googly eyes
- scissors
- glue (hot glue works best)
- optional: paint and Q-tips
Instructions:
- Optional: paint the pine cone by dipping Q-tip and dabbing paint on the pine cone
- Glue feathers to the back of the pine cone to look like turkey feathers
- Glue googly eyes and beak into the pompom to the front to create a face.
- Glue pompom to the top of the pine cone.
- Cut our feet and glue is desired
Paperclip Turkey Craft
Materials:
- colorful paperclips
- construction paper for the head, beak, and gobbler
- cardstock or manila folder for the body (thicker paper than construction paper)
- googly eyes
- scissors
- glue
Instructions:
- Cut out half a circle for the body (cardstock or manila folder)
- Cut out head, beak and gobbler
- Glue body parts
- Place paperclips around the body
Finger-Paint Turkey Craft
Materials:
- Brown paint and four other paint colors
- Paintbrush
- Markers
- Paper
- Optional: find a cute turkey poem
Instructions:
- Use a paintbrush to paint the child’s hand brown, including the palm and thumb
- Use a clean brush to paint four fingers in different colors
- Stamp painted hand-on paper
- Wait until dry, and draw legs, eyes, beak and gobbler
- Optional: glue the turkey poem on paper next to the turkey finger-paint.
Toilet Paper Roll Turkey Craft
Materials:
- Toilet paper roll
- Brown paper or paint
- Feathers
- Googly eyes
- Piece for beak and gobbler
- Glue or hot glue
- Scissors
Instructions:
- Cover toilet paper with brown paper or paint
- Add turkey face to the front
- Glue feathers to the top of the roll.
Terrific turkey crafts add festive spirit around Thanksgiving time and help us celebrate the theme of gratitude. Additionally, turkey crafts help develop fine motor skills, creativity, and an understanding of the holiday’s cultural significance. Always supervise children with small materials, scissors, and hot glue. Turkey craft activities are an excellent opportunity for children to learn and have fun.
